he midst of our team redesigning the new Flipboard app, the
brand team took on not only refreshing the brand ID, but made
an educational launch film to go with it.
The
video had to make clear that we were not just a news-parsing
app, but a place for communities and individuals to read, save
and share their interests into magazines/collections.
Here
were the things we needed to address—
Explain what Flipboard is and what the new version of it is
It's more than just news
A relatable/real character with familiar interests—appealing to many age groups
Simplify the explanation of what our new features are
Captivating storytelling for a considerably lengthy film
No Flipboard interview or video is complete without the iconic red couch. This sets the tone for real stories, real conversations.
The red couch became a staple when in its early days, Steve Jobs spent some time on it. Since then, it has become a nostalgic pasttime and a part of our brand.
